What are you carrying forward?

Here we are the end of the summer. It’s a beautiful time, as we shift from the pace of summer and into the routines of the Fall season, to pause and reflect on what we are taking away from the summer. Each season has so much to offer us, to teach us, and show us how we have changed.

Settle into a comfortable seated position. Your eyes can be open or closed. Your hands can be anywhere in your lap or on your body that’s comfortable. Take a few breaths and simply begin to observe your breathing. With each breath, presence yourself more and more in your body and in this moment.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What did this summer offer you?

  • When did you feel most connected to yourself?

  • Did anything surprise you about yourself this summer?

  • What are you ready to let go of as summer ends?

  • What is your body asking for at this time of seasonal transition?

  • What do you feel like making more room for now?

  • What is one small way you can come back to yourself?

  • What is the biggest lesson or takeaway that you are carrying forward with you?

Once you’re done, set down your notebook and, with eyes open or closed, take a few breaths. Simply be in the moment, as you are. If it’s useful, note any reflections now that you’ve done both exercises. What do you notice about yourself? Anything that came up that surprised you?
