Strengths & Improvements
No matter where we are on our life journey, it can always be a helpful exercise to do check-ins of different sorts. Doing an inventory of our strengths and areas of improvements can be both useful and insightful, as we are always evolving and changing. Sometimes we don’t realize all the details until we do!
Settle into a comfortable seated position. Your eyes can be open or closed. Your hands can be anywhere in your lap or on your body that’s comfortable. Take a few breaths and simply begin to observe your breathing. With each breath, presence yourself more and more in your body and in this moment.
Bring to mind your strengths at this time in your life. They can be in any area of your life. In fact, allow your mind to be as open as possible. If it drifts into work-related strengths, that’s fine. And then invite your mind to other areas or even broader to just you as a human being at this age and chapter of life. If your mind gets stuck in one area of life, pause, take a few breaths. And invite it back into the exercise. Feel free to note your reflections as they come up, or wait until after you’re done. Whichever feels best for you.
When you feel that you’re done reflecting on your strengths, pause for a few moments. Take a few slow, deep breaths. Letting go of the exercise.
When you’re ready, bring to mind your areas of improvement at this time in your life. Follow the same intention as before. Feel free to note your reflections as they come up, or wait until after you’re done. Whichever feels best for you.
Once you’re done, set down your notebook and, with eyes open or closed, take a few breaths. Simply be in the moment, as you are. If it’s useful, note any reflections now that you’ve done both exercises. What do you notice about yourself? Anything that came up that surprised you?
